This site supports the Scouting activities of the Chaparral District within the South Plains Council of the Boy Scouts of America. There are more than 60 units in the Chaparral District, providing the Scouting Program to over 1,700 youth members. These units are sponsored by local schools, churches and civic organizations. Scouts benefit the local community through service projects, Eagle projects and area wide “Good Turns” like Scouting for Food (see below). The district also hosts a chapter of the Nakona Lodge of Scouting's national honor society, the Order of the Arrow.

Upcoming events calendar:
We host here a copy of the Council and District Events calendar for easy reference for upcoming activities and events. Check this page often for updates!
As a general guide, unless listed differently in the calendar, District Committee meetings are held the first Thursday evening of each month beginning 7:00 pm at The Atmos Energy Office, 5110 80th (one block east of Slide Road). Come in using the engineering entrance on the northwest corner of the building.
Roundtables are generally held the second Thursday evening of each month beginning 7:00 pm at St. John's UMC on University Ave. in Lubbock. This is a great way for ALL adults and youth interested in growing the value and quality of the Scouting program for their units to learn how to do so. All adultand youth leaders are encouraged to attend this monthly get-together to exchange tips on providing the best possible information and experiences to the members of their own units.
New Scouting for Adventure TV series
Boys' Life has been working with the Outdoor Channel to develop a prime time television show about Scouting. The episodes will air Wednesday evenings on the Outdoor Channel beginning August 13, 2008. More details are available in a flyer provided by the National Council.
Notes on unit and personal training:
In addition to any scheduled training events as described on the Council Calendar, the District training committee will also work with individual units to set up training courses on an as-needed basis. Please contact Fritz Struve if you have suggestions or needs for training. This is an excellent way to build communication about the scouting program between parents and adult leaders invovled with your unit.
Please encourage all adult leaders and assistant leaders, Scouters and committee members in your unit to attend these training sessions. For other training resources, see also the BSA Online Learning Center for online Youth Protection Training, safety-related courses, and a wide variety of Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Venturing-related training.
Attention: Internet Advancement is here!
The Council now supports Internet Advancement for all units. Your unit leaders should have received a Unit ID number and access instructions. Contact Travis or Austin if you have not received this information.
Past News:
The guide and registration form for the most recent Chaparral District Camporee are also available for reference in planning future events.
Scouting for Food: We support this annual food collection to help provide for needs throughout our community. Here is the 2007 map of unit assignments for bag distribution and pickup. Through this important Scouting activity, we support the U-Can-Share Food Drive of the South Plains Food Bank and partners each year. To request information or adjustments for future assignments, come to the District Roundtables or District Committee meetings as described above and/or contact the Scouting for Food District Coordinator.
